What Are You Currently Prioritising?

Your actions are what show your priorities. Not what you intend, not what you say, not what your “mindset” is. Your actions.
Every time that you choose to pick up your phone instead of doing the work, you are prioritising being distracted over making progress. When you scroll instead of sleep, you are choosing stimulation over rest. If you choose to consume instead of create, you’re prioritising passive comfort over active growth.
You might say you want one thing. Your actions say something else.
The Gap Between What You Say and What You Do
Most people claim to have the same priorities. Being healthy, being successful, having good relationships, being comfortable financially. A life of meaning.
Contrast to what one may actually do. Scroll for hours, skip the gym, avoid difficult conversations. Taking the easy way out. Consuming instead of creating.
Your priorities aren’t what you say they are, they are what you spend your time on. Time exposes truth.
If you spend hours scrolling or watching a new series and zero hours building a skill, your priority is entertainment and not growth. If you spend more time watching workout content than actually working out, you prefer the feeling of productivity instead of progress.
Time is finite and limited. Once it’s gone, it’s never coming back. How you spend it is important.
The Invisible Priorities
Comfort > challenge: Watching is easier than doing. Consuming is easier than creating. Progress is tough.
Distraction > focus: Every tab and open app is an escape from boredom. When you scroll you avoid doing what needs to be done. You prioritise anything that isn’t focus.
Instant gratification > delayed results: Dopamine now beats growth later. The hit of a like, a new video or episode is instant. The fruits of deep work take months. It’s easier to take the now versus the later.
Other people’s priorities > your own: An algorithm decides what to show you, what not to show you, what opinions you see, what you’re shielded from and more. Can you really say you are in control of what gets your attention? Someone else is.
The Algorithm’s Priorities vs Yours
The platform has its priorities. Keep you engaged, keep you on the app, learn as much about you as possible.
You open the platform for “just a second” and you lose 30 minutes, an hour just like that. Why? The platform imposed its priority on yours.
What Are You Actually Prioritising?
You will know based off what you do. What you do on a daily basis. What your screen time reflects. Look at what you do. Is what you do truly a reflection of your priorities? Are you lying to yourself about what you prioritise?
Look at your screen time, look at what you’ve done. Look at what you did yesterday. Prioritise your behaviour.
Platforms want your attention and time. Your goals need the same. Who’s going to win?
How Does This Relate To Tech Consciousness?
Tech consciousness means that your behaviour reveals your priorities, not your words. Platforms are designed to nurture this, to make your goals the furthest thing from your mind.
Taking control means looking at your behaviour and asking: Is this getting me to where I want to go?
You don’t need to ask what you prioritise. You proved it yesterday.

In that gap between the stimulus and the response, you made the choice. Minuscule but tangible. The choice exists. You can ignore a notification, you can turn off your notifications, you can pick up the phone. Your autonomy depends on what you choose...
